ISO adopts OOXML. What foolishness is this?
Apparently ISO has adopted the Microsoft OOXML “standard” for documents. So long, ISO. You were good while you lasted… kind of like Yahoo! before Google. Soon a better algorithm for standardization will be divised in someone’s garage and you’ll be nothing but a bloated shell waiting for a hostile takeover by the company that’s just sealed your fate (Microsoft).
Err… I apologize for the malodrama. But, really. OOXML? XP wasn’t the worst OS ever, but if Microsoft is going to stay in the software industry it would be very nice of them to start innovating. And if ISO really is going to stay in the Standards business, they should set up an ISO standard process for vetting and selecting standards that excludes corruption from it.
